Tuscany

It is always nice to remember wonderful travels. One of those was Tuscany. It was a short but sweet trip and I definitely plan to go back and explore more of its beautiful landscapes.

I have always wanted to visit the Cinque Terre, but somehow my travels are always somewhere exotic, far away from home. I find myself thinking how places that are close can be seen anytime. So no more delays, I am visiting Italy’s Tuscany. Tuscany is Italian region known for its beautiful landscapes, history, tradition, art and monuments. Cinque Terre (Italian for “Five Countries”) is the name for five settlements on the Ligurian coast of Italy: Monterosso al Mare Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.

My trip was planned for the weekend. The weather didn’t really suit us, it was raining all the time but I decided that my fascination with these beautiful towns could not be deminished. The rain gave them a special charm.

It was the end of October and it marked the end of the tourist season which I think it is the best time to visit it without all the craziness with the tourists during summer. I enjoyed having those charming towns to (almost only) myself. With each town prettier than the previous I couldn’t point out just one so I enjoyed each one to the fullest. Not even rain could ruin my day, even though my sneakers started turning into little pools of water :).

After the Cinque terre the road took us to Bologna. Another WOW. I felt like I was brought back in time as I walked the streets of Bologna. In the old part of the town there is a large number of medieval palaces, fountains and churches. Bologna is known for having one of the oldest universities in the world (founded in 1089) and during the academic year students make up as much as a fifth of its population. It can also be said that Bologna is also a city of sports (football, volleyball, basketball). City of gastronomy – bolognese sauce …. City of towers (there used to be 180 of them scattered all over the city, while today there are only twenty left). City of red roofs and that is actually the most interesting part for me. If you look at Bologna from the air you will see beautiful red roofs which makes it a very unique city.

I ended my journey in beautiful Florence. Florence impersonates all Italian magic and splendor in the best way. A city that is a synonim for art, the birthplace of the Renaissance and the heart of Tuscany. Each street tells a story that has its foothold in rich history and joint with modern gives a special charm.

Given the interesting history of medieval and Enlightenment, there are plenty of hidden secrets and scandals in Florence that enrichens the story of the town. Take a tour and find out how the Medici family supported the Renaissance period or how Michelangelo created it or why Hitler decided not to destroy the Ponte Vecchio in World War II. Florence has amazing secrets, and the best part is that it is a very well preserved city where you will feel like you are really traveling through time.

This is a trip that I would definitely love to repeat. Just next time I’ll take a train ticket and go through all those beautiful cities. They have an excellent railway network and are very accessible. Italian roads are very crowded which is very time consuming and kills the vibe of „exploring“ so I think that traveling by train might be the easiest way to travel through Italy.  Which ever way works for you, you will definitely not regret visiting beautiful Italy with rich history, art, good food and beautiful people.
